Programme Highlight
The management of waste glass fibre-reinforced polymer (glass FRP or GFRP) composites presents a critical environmental challenge globally, while the increasing focus of the construction industry on the sustainability of civil infrastructure calls for innovations in construction materials. This webinar presents the development of novel construction materials that make effective use of the so-called “macro fibres” obtained from an innovative mechanical recycling process of GFRP. These macro fibres are essentially still a composite material consisting of glass fibres and resin, and their properties can be optimized to maximize their reinforcing effects on various construction materials (e.g., concrete and asphalt). This webinar covers the innovative mechanical recycling process, the properties of macro fibres and those of the construction materials incorporating the macro fibres, demonstrating that the recycled macro fibres is an economical and sustainable alternative to other short reinforcements (e.g., steel fibres) for high-performance construction materials.
