Engineering in Practice
Date, time & venue
26 April 2023 (Wednesday), 17:00-18:00, Seminar via Zoom Meeting
Organized by
HKIE Civil Division and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
Programme Highlight
Human-robot collaboration is considered as the lubricant between many processes within factory lines, especially when it comes to installation and assembly. Human involvement is by far the most cost-effective way to provide the flexibility required for complex construction production; therefore, many researchers have been focusing on this interface. The degree of human-robot collaboration and the optimal level of automation depends on the design of the structure, and to fully leverage its potential, all industry stakeholders should be involved in the process. Many machine learning applications such as vision analytics and generative algorithms can provide the missing piece needed for effective management of human-robot collaboration. The anticipated impacts include how to provide safety for workers, how humans and robots can effectively share the workplace, while enhancing the productivity of projects. The collaboration enjoys the accuracy of robot operation and the creativity of humans. This webinar will focus on the applications of machine learning in supporting human-robot collaboration and opportunities to improve the current human-robot collaboration practices.
