Webinar on Study of Coastal Hazards under Climate Change and Extreme Weather and Formulation of Improvement Measures - Feasibility Study
Date, Time and Venue
31 August 2022 (Wednesday), 19:00 – 20:00, Seminar Via Zoom Meeting
Organized by
HKIE Civil Division
Programme Highlights
The geographical position of Hong Kong makes it susceptible to adverse weather-related threats such as tropical cyclones, rainstorms, storm surges and overtopping waves. In particular, some coastal low-lying and windy locations are vulnerable to sea water inundation caused by extreme storm surges and overtopping waves, and have the facilities situated near the seaside damaged as a result.
The Civil Engineering and Development Department completed a “Study of Coastal Hazards under Climate Change and Extreme Weather and Formulation of Improvement Measures – Feasibility Study” which has comprehensively reviewed the impacts of storm surges and waves on coastal low-lying or windy locations under extreme weather and climate change. It identified 26 coastal low-lying or windy residential areas with higher risks for formulation of improvement works and management measures to safeguard public safety. The Government plans to take forward the above enhancement measures in an orderly manner. This webinar will present the finding of the study and proposed enhancement measures.
