Engineering in Practice
Date, time & venue
4th Nov 2020 (Wed), 18:30-20:00, Seminar via Zoom Meeting
Organized by
HKIE Civil Division
Programme Highlight
To close the gap between the design and the real world, engineers nowadays adopted 3D scanning tools for collecting combination of high-density 3D scan data and published to common data environments using BIM software for quality checking, progress tracking, or to be used as preliminary design data. The georeferenced scanned data and the federated models published from different design software are in global coordinates with no mapping required. With mixed reality applications and connected software, engineers can check and verify the construction on site or remotely with virtual BIM model combined with the built environment using HoloLens with safety Helmet. In this seminar, the speaker will introduce the most advanced and innovative technology for civil engineering and structural design for quality checks and verification using BIM approach. Some real examples will also be introduced and highlighted for references during the seminar.

Speakers
Mr. Kevin S.C. Wong had over 20 years’ engineering design and BIM software platform implementation experience in large-scaled construction projects in Hong Kong. Being a BIM enthusiast, Kevin possessed both engineering design background and application of BIM Software using integrated design approach from early design stage downstream to fabrications and handover stages to clients in the project lifecycle. During his works as CIC Certified BIM Manager for his BIM Consultancy jobs and training courses, he showed his passion and ability in delivering high quality contents and results for all stakeholders involved in BIM project. As the Vice-chairman of HKIBIM, BIMAP Assessor for CCBM, and the Director of HKABEIMA and Event Manager of buildingSMART HK Chapter for openBIM, he continues to apply his professional knowledge and commitments on BIM for all practitioners in construction field. Kevin also contributed to the BIM society especially young people as the student’s mentor participated in CIC BIM Competition and being as student representative for MSc (IPD) course in HKU. He enjoyed teaching as part-time lecturer for BIM courses organized by HKU SPACE, VTC, and CUSCS in Hong Kong.
