Programme Highlight

To cope with the population growth and meet the huge housing needs, nine New Towns were developed in Hong Kong between 1970s to 1990s.  This helped decentralize the overcrowded population in urban areas and supported the economic growth of Hong Kong.  Ever since then, development of New Towns has been shelved until the development of North East New Territories New Development Areas (NDAs) was brought on board in 2007.  NDA projects in the New Territories, including the Kwu Tung North and Fanling North NDA (“the Project”), form a core part of government’s multi-pronged land supply strategy in the medium and long term.  After more than 10 years of planning, consultation and preparation, the Project has finally proceeded to the construction stage in September 2019.  A new chapter of developing new towns has begun.  This seminar will share the background and challenges of delivering the Project.

Speakers

Ms. Maggie MAK and Ms. Kaberlina HO

Ms. MAK is the Chief Engineer of North Development Office of Civil Engineering and Development (CEDD) of HKSAR Government in charge of the Project.  Ms. Kaberlina HO is the Senior Engineer of CEDD involved in project planning and administering construction contracts of the Project.

The seminar will be conducted in Cantonese.  Presentation materials will be in English.

The number of participants is limited to 500 on a first-come-first served basis. Priority will be given to members of Civil Division.
