Pre-insulated pipes (PIP) are used for heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) in building services They have been extensively used in Kai Tak District Cooling System (DCS) in Hong Kong. The pre-insulated pipe factory that we are going to visit in Taishan has manufactured the PIP since 2018. Before 2018, this factory has been producing mild steel and ductile iron pipes for the construction Industry for over 10 years and it continues its production at Taishan factory. The current plant has an annual production capacity of approximate 20,000m length of PIP.
Through visiting the factory, participants will learn how the DCS can help to save energy and also several tests such as hydrostatic pressure test, sand blasting and quality control checking on exterior steel surface, wet film and dry film checking, and insulation density test. Participants will also learn the economic benefit from proper fabrication of PIP in a DCS.
