International Best Practices in Controlling Light and Heavy-Duty Vehicle Emissions

Date, time & venue
2007-11-07;;

The speaker will outline efforts to identify and promote international best practices in controlling transportation emissions organized by the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT), a U.S.-based non-governmental organization that disseminates technical and policy information among environmental regulators worldwide. Dr. Rutherford will describe a recent ICCT assessment of national greenhouse gas (GHG) emission and fuel economy standards for passenger vehicles and efforts to harmonize heavy-duty emission standards between developed and developing countries. Those activities illustrate how better information sharing on environmental technologies and policies between nations can improve air quality, safeguard public health, and reduce costs for industries that would otherwise have to comply with patchwork regulations around the world.

Speakers
Dr. Daniel RUTHERFORD, a Staff Scientist of the ICCT. His current work focuses on public policies to control emissions from new and in-use heavy-duty vehicles, to improve passenger vehicle fuel economy, and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the aviation sector.
