Engineering in Practice
Date, time & venue
2011-03-07;6:30-8:00pm;Seminar Room, HKIE HQ
Programme Highlights
Groundwater condition is an essential consideration in many engineering projects. It affects construction environment, geotechnical stability, land subsidence, seepage, and erosion, especially during extreme rainfall events. However, our knowledge of subsurface condition is often limited. These uncertainties pose considerable risks in our practice. Many recent technological advances in subsurface characterization and analytical techniques improve our knowledge of the subsurface system and allow us to better manage the associated risks. This seminar will focus on the conventional and new characterization techniques as well as analysis methods. Case studies will be presented.
Speaker
Dr. Bill Chin Man Mok is the Principal Engineer and Hydrogeologist of AMEC Geomatrix, Inc. in Oakland, California, Affiliated Professor and Rudolf Diesel Industry Fellow of Technical University of Munich-Institute of Advanced Study, Adjunct Professor of University of Waterloo.
