Programme Highlights The Tsuen Wan Drainage Tunnel is being constructed to alleviate the threat of flooding in the Tsuen Wan and Kwai Chung Districts. The tunnel is 5.1km in length and 6.5m internal diameter, concrete lined and constructed using a custom-built Double Shield TBM. The talks include the flood control, engineering constraints, and providing the solution on the design and construction.
Speaker: Ir. Thomas Kane, CEng, FICE, MHKIE, FCIArb, Chief Resident Engineer and Supervising Officer’s Representative, Mott MacDonald Hong Kong Ltd. Thomas has been involved in various projects in Hong Kong since 1979, including Tsuen Wan North, New Town Development; the Reconstruction of Kings Road; the North Lantau Expressway and more recently the construction of trunk sewers in Wanchai East and North Point by TBM, and currently the Tsuen Wan Drainage Tunnel.
Mr. Riccardo Perlo, Engineering Geologist, Mott MacDonald Hong Kong Ltd . Specialized in Project Construction Manager with over 18 years’ experience, for project and construction management and tunnel design across Asia, Europe and South America. Experienced in mechanised (open TBM, double shield TBM, EPB TBM), conventional and drill and blast tunnelling, including urban areas and deep tunnels, ground consolidation and monitoring.
