Programme Highlight
The Central Kowloon Route (CKR) is a dual 3-lane trunk road connecting the Yau Ma Tei Interchange in West Kowloon with the Kai Tak Interchange in East Kowloon. It will divert the traffic along the major east-west corridors in Kowloon so as to relieve the existing traffic congestion and to cope with future traffic demand. The alignment of the CKR passes through the highly developed Central Kowloon area as well as the seabed of the Kowloon Bay. The CKR will mainly be formed by tunnel and the three ventilation buildings will be equipped with air purification system.
The seminar will introduce some of the key challenges faced in the planning and design of the CKR and the design considerations to cater for those challenges. Interesting topics, including the selection of alignment, the considerations of construction methods, the process of public engagement and the measures adopted in handling the environmental and public concerns, will be covered.
