Technical Seminar - Experience Sharing for Constructing the Happy Valley Underground Stormwater Storage Scheme: Technical and Collaborative Contractual Challenges

Chun Wo was awarded the Contract for the construction of Happy Valley Underground Stormwater Storage Scheme in Sept 2012 under the supervision by Drainage Services Department (DSD). This scheme mainly includes the construction of a 60,000 m³ storage tank with the first-of-the-kind movable weirs, 650m long box culvert, a fan room and a pump house with the Contract being executed under the New Engineering Contract (NEC) Option C, to a Target cost with an Activity Schedule.  This seminar will focus on the innovations, such as replacement of the pre-bored steel H-piles foundation with a sub-soil drainage system, and challenges, such as construction works being taken place within the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s race course and recreational ground in Happy Valley. The speaker will also share his experiences in tackling technical and contractual challenges through the NEC spirit of mutual trust and close collaboration amongst DSD, Chun Wo and the stakeholder parties.

 

Speaker

Ir Ken Ko is a Chartered Civil Engineer. He is a Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (MICE) and the Fellow of Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (FHKIE). He has 30 years of practical experience in the construction industry including building, civil, foundation, marine engineering and P-Way projects in Hong Kong, Macau and the United Arab Emirates. He is currently the Business Head of Chun Wo Group to take charge of Civil, Foundation and P-Way subsidiary. He is also the project leader of 3 Government construction projects using NEC3 Engineering Conditions of Contract.
